Hanuman Jayanti Celebration at Om Shala
April 1 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
To celebrate Hanuman-ji’s birthday, we will gather and sing 11 Hanuman Chalisas, with call and response kirtan at the end.
No prior experience is necessary. Song sheets will be given and there will be a brief teaching on the Hindu God Hanuman as well as the Chalisa and why we sing it on this auspicious day. Whether you have sung this chant before, listened to it, or never even heard it before, everyone will be able to engage with this very powerful practice.
There will be time at the end for prasad (eating holy food that has been offered through devotional practice) and everyone is welcome to bring their own sattvic (no onion/garlic/meat) potluck item to share.
“The ‘Chalisa’ is more than a devotional song. Hanuman is the flow that takes us into our true self. And the ‘Chalisa’ is a transmission, a mantra that calls him to come into our hearts.” -Krishna Das ( https://wanderlust.com/journal/the-hanuman-chalisa-a-chant-of-love/ )
“People don’t know. Every line of the Hanuman Chalisa is a maha-mantra.” -Neem Karoli Baba
