April 8 @ 12:00 pm - April 28 @ 5:30 pm
Bhakti Yoga & Music Immersion:
an Introductory Course in the Art of Sacred Chant
w/ Shemaia Skywater, Sitaram Dass & guest teachers
Calling all yogis who desire to deepen their practice through bhakti yoga and chanting. Whether an experienced musician or just a beginner, we will explore ways to weave music and mantra into your daily sadhana.
Through Japa (mantra practice), kirtan (call & response), bhajans (devotional songs), sacred texts, philosophy, music and sanskrit instruction, we will deepen our understanding while developing our musical abilities on this path of the heart.
We will meet 4 times for a total of 16 hours of instruction and in-class practice, plus invites to 2 kirtan and bhakti yoga events.
Shemaia Skywater is a songweaver, sound healer, and a yoga and music teacher. A multi-talented artist, she plays, guitar, dulcimer, ukelele, banjo, and vocals. Finding no resonance with mainstream music for entertainment, she found her way quite naturally into chanting, sound healing, and the yoga tradition. For the last decade and a half, bhakti practice has taken front row in her sadhana. She leads kirtan regularly with her band “SKYWATER.”
Sitaram Dass is a multi-instrumentalist, sacred songwriter, kirtan leader, bhakti yoga workshop facilitator, and music teacher. He spent several years living with his teacher Ram Dass, where he deepened his commitment to the bhakti path. He now spends his time traveling to sing kirtan and share the dharma wherever he can.
