200 Hr Yoga Teacher Training

Om Shala Yoga is pleased to work in partnership with Soma Yoga Institute to bring this 200-hour Therapeutic Yoga Teacher Training Program to the Arcata, California community.

Includes Vinyasa Flow, Therapeutic Alignment Principles, & the Path of Yoga as a Framework for Holistic Health.

This program offers students in-depth skills to explore Yoga as a vehicle for vibrant health, self-transformation, and personal empowerment. Our curriculum includes a unique blend of alignment based vinyasa flow, a solid foundation in Hatha Yoga and 200 hours of instruction offered within a therapeutic framework.  The instruction will cover a wide range of yoga techniques including yoga postures, anatomy, relaxation, breath awareness, pranayama, meditations to calm the mind, contemplations to transform limiting tendencies into life affirming thought patterns, and the application of clear principles of alignment to create safety, balance and freedom in yoga poses.

Daily yoga asana practice at yoga teacher training

Students explore concepts from Ayurveda, the Upanishads, Patanjali and the Chakra System as frameworks for the application of Yoga as a journey towards radiant health and wellbeing. The asana emphasis includes both level one/two alignment based vinyasa flow sequencing as well as gentler and restorative variations. Students are exposed to frameworks that inspire each trainee to adapt the practices, awaken their creativity and find their own authentic voice as a teacher. Graduates of this program feel empowered to teach a variety of yoga class types, including: all levels Vinyasa Yoga, alignment-based classes, Yoga foundations, senior, gentle, and restorative.

Please note: This program is approved with Yoga Alliance and graduates are eligible to register with Yoga Alliance as a Registered Yoga Teacher at the 200 hour level (RYT-200).  The therapeutic perspective & curricular components of this program are based on Liz’s registration as a Certified Yoga Therapist with the International Association of Yoga Therapists (C-IAYT) and not derived from her status as an E-RYT 500 with Yoga Alliance Registry as the Yoga Alliance Registry does not certified yoga therapists, solely yoga teachers.

If you have a love and passion for Yoga, then you are welcome to participate, whether it is with the desire to deepen your own personal yoga practice or with the intention to teach yoga to others.

200 Hr Yoga Teacher Training

I absolutely recommend this 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training to others.  It has taught me how to open up and create space for friendship, community and love.  The alignment piece was a huge eye opener and I absolutely loved our lessons with Peggy!  My practice has totally transformed and I’ve learned to start from the beginning, take it slow and focus on alignment in even the most basic poses.  I really enjoyed the group discussions and sharing of philosophy, restorative and meditation techniques and loved how compassionate and loving Liz and Peggy were in welcoming us to this space as I felt super vulnerable coming in. – Sarah

I would absolutely recommend this training.  The curriculum was organized, rigorous, compassionate and thoughtful. The feeling of community, made the biggest difference to me.  I was surrounded by beautiful souls who wanted to learn and who wanted to make the world a more peaceful place through yoga.  I always had a study buddy, a dance partner, a listening ear.  The amount of love and support allowed me to develop my own personal journey within the framework of the course.  I feel so prepared to sequence classes now.  The alignment principles have helped me develop asana in my body and better able to explain the structure of a pose to someone else.  I am so grateful to Liz for her gentle guidance and the challenge to be the best version of myself.  – Emily

I believe I was given great knowledge of how to keep students safe, using clear language, intentional words, with the emphasis on teaching without doing the poses and know that from this really great foundation there are many possibilities out there.  I loved the way that the feedback went after our practicums.  I learned so much from the reflection on everyone’s teaching.  I also felt completely supported and seen with “eyes of love” by the instructors.  I am incredibly thankful and grateful for this experience and I look forward to a life journey with Yoga! -Kendra

I would 100% absolutely recommend this training to others!  I loved forming my own sequences and developing a home practice. Yoga has affected my life so much.  It’s given me more energy and strength to get through the hard times in life and daily struggles.  It has lowered my stress and anxiety.  It just literally made my life and mood better. -Kandyss

During the time we were doing philosophy readings and presentations, I was making some decisions about my career and in what direction I would like to specialize.  While this is a continued process, I was really helped by the teachings to come to a conclusion about what I really wanted from my career, and more importantly, that I would be content regardless!  Coming to my mat had always been a fantastic experience, but with this new mental framework, I have a place to reflect on life’s “big” decisions with more poise.  Thank you for this awesome, invaluable experience, Liz!  I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to learn from you!  -Krina

One of the biggest reasons I signed up so quickly for this training was because Liz was the instructor. Her approach to classes and our program made something very big and important, very approachable.  I felt like I would be at a disadvantage having not read anything about yoga before but I loved this experience, we all learned together. I loved the community we created.   My understanding of yoga deepened immensely. I have become more patient, calm and compassionate with others and myself. It was so fun.  I will always carry it with me. – Alexandra

I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to take part in this yoga teacher training.  I’ve learned so much, beyond yoga as well, that will help me reorganize and refocus my energies. I believe the skills and lessons I’ve learned will serve me well to be a more observant, compassionate and focused physician. My personal yoga practice has grown dramatically I feel much better equipped to maintain my practice for the rest of my life.  I didn’t plan to teach when I first signed up for the training but find it to be very fun and exciting to be able to share what I have learned.  It has also helped me in my everyday life to be more patient, compassionate, and to go with the flow.   -Casey

Having gone into this teacher training with some hesitation I am so glad that I followed through.  Before taking the training my knowledge of yoga was slim to none. The space that was created for learning felt so supportive.  I loved the community our class created. The knowledge that was shared was invaluable.  I loved the chakras, pranayama and the philosophy.  I feel so connected to yoga physically and spiritually and I know that the journey I’ve embarked on will be life long.  I would recommend this program to anyone serious about inquiring into yoga and dedicated and open enough to learn.  -Jill
